Hi all;
My name is Dave. This is my first post with this group. I' been into aquariums for many years now. Freshwater community tanks, saltwater reef and even Discus. My tanks are coming down right now because I'm moving. In a few moths I'll be setting up a new tank. Iwould like to try Apistos. Justout of curiosity, what is the smallest tank that apair of Apistos can be kepted in ?
Thanks
Dave

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Well you have come to the right place. We can't get enough of them around here! :D

Depending on the species, you could probably keep a pair in a 2.5g tank, but is in no way enough space for them. Some people breed a number of species in a 5g., but that would limite the type of species that you are working with somewhat. Housing a pair of apistos in a 10-15g. tank would probably be my choice in general. Again, this depends on the species, other tankmates, the structure in the tank and if you are trying to breed. Just about every pair that I have worked with and spawned (about 60 species and species-forms of Apistogramma) have been in a 15g. or smaller. This is not to say that they would not appreciate more space.
Good luck on your move and hope to hear back from you.
Neil

Thanks Neil;
I'm not going to use anything that small. I was just curious. I have a 100gal. tank that I'm going to use if I have the room in my new place. If not, then I'll use a few smaller tanks (about 20 to 30gal.).
Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

If you're going to buy new tanks, my choice would be a 20L as apposed to a 20H, the apisto's don't use the upper areas of the tall tanks and would appreciate the extra floor space of the long tank.
