Hi fellow hobbyist,

I'd like to know what you all are using/recommending for provide adequate air to multiple sponge filters. I have (2) breeder tanks and a community tank with (2) sponge filters.

Today I have (3) air pumps, one for each breeder tank and one with a splitter on it for the (2) filters in the community tank.

This is what I'm currently using.

(1) Tetra 10 air pump
https://www.amazon.com/Tetra-Whisper-Easy-Aquariums-Non-UL/dp/B0009YJ4N6

(1) Tetra 40 air pump with a 3way splitter
https://www.amazon.com/Tetra-Whisper-Easy-Aquariums-Non-UL/dp/B0009YF4FI

(1) JW Fusion 200 air pump
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018CFMUW

(4) Hydro Sponge Pro Filter
https://www.amazon.com/Lustar-Hydro-Sponge-Filter-Aquariums-Gallons/dp/B0002ARE98

-----------------------------

What do you all recommend for:

(1) a quality and "low noise" air pump that can effectively drive (4) sponge filters. My setup is on stand in a bedroom so "noise" is a big deal

(2) quality air splitter, something like this for example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073CTVJGJ/ but I'm looking for one that routes the air correctly. The one i currently have seems to favor peak air flow to the port closest to the inlet line.

(3) check valve, efficient with low resistance

(4) air stones to install in sponge filters.

Thanks in advance

If this was 1975, I'd recommend a Silent Giant air pump - powerful and quiet. I don't use small pumps now. My 40 tank fish room is run on a linear piston pump (+ a smaller emergency back-up) - so much quieter (and cheaper to operate) than my old turbine blower.

You might check Jehmco.com if you haven't already. Like Mike I use a linear piston pump and have had many years of quiet trouble free service. They also have some serious diaphragm pumps for smaller setups.

Oh, man, I used to love those pumps. :) Did you ever take one apart to look inside? The air pump was literally housed inside an empty soup can, with sand packed between the can and the outer plastic housing to dampen the vibration.

Yes, that was the nastiest, greasy sand I ever encountered! I even re-built some of these pumps using rebuild kits they sold, but they never seemed to work as well as factory-built units. I'm pretty sure I still have a kit or 2 somewhere in my 'museum of junk aquarium parts' that even includes heaters that have separate heater and thermostat tubes. Lord, I must be old! NOOO!!
