Need help diagnosing my a. Agassizii. He developed a bump on his stomach area. This is my favorite fish it would really be appreciated if anybody could help.
Which animal is affected? Species, sex, age? (If age unknown: How long have you had the fish?)
Male Apistogramma agassizii, have had him for about 5 months.
What are the symptoms? Any changes in look, behaviour, bearing, buoyancy, fecies?
He has a bump on his abdomen.
How long has the problem been going on? (Timeline?)
I have noticed it for about 3 days now.
What's the full stocking list?
12x sparkling gourami
12x kuhli loach
1x l333, l201
4x swordtails (3F, 1M)
Any changes in the behaviour of the other fish?
Not that I have noticed
What size is the tank? (Preferrably dimensions, not volume!)
48x12x20in , 55 gal
How long is the tank running?
Since June 8 2025
Have there been any changes in the past 2 months? New animals, plants, decoration?
No
What food are the fish fed? How much, how often?
I normally feed Fluval Bug Bites, occasionally mosquito larvae, Omega One freeze dried baby brine shrimp, Hikari Sinking wafers+ Hikari algae wafers
What is the temperature?
Sits at around 79°F.
What are the water parameters? (Please note all known tank and source water parameters in numbers! Not "good", "optimal" or "perfect"!)
pH: 7.8
GH: 10
KH: 6
EC/TDS: not sure
NO3: 0
NO2: 0
NH3/4: 5.0ppm
What test kit did you use? (liquid, strips, store service?)
API Liquid Test Kit
Are you using water conditioners or any other additives? (e.g. dechlorinators, humic/blackwater extracts, fertilizers)
Dechlorinators, and i occasionally dose Thrive + fertilizer
What filter are you using? (Canister, sponge, internal, mattenfilter?)
I run an AC70, AC50, and a TIDAL 75.
What's the maintenance regimen? (Waterchange volume and frequency, thorough cleaning of filters/substrate?)
I do a 20% wc weekly, i don’t vacuum the substrate unless needed and the filters get cleaned in tank water when they get clogged.
Have there been any chemicals used around the tank? (Cleaning agents, room sprays, wall paint, adhesives...)
No
Have there been any pesticides, fungicides or herbicides used around the tank?
No
Are there any unknown animals in the tank?
No
What has been done already? (Timeline!)
I did a 50% WC yesterday.
If so, what meds have been used? (Timeline!)
None.
