A buddy of mine has offered me a pair of Chromidotilapia guntheri loennbergii. I can't find much about this species on the web. Any useful infromation from apistogramma.com members would be very much appreciated. Specifically, can I house the loennbergii in the same tank with my C. guntheri guntheri or would I have to worry about producing hybrids, loennbergii x guntheri guntheri? Thanks a lot!

Are you talking about the pair listed on AB? Nice looking fish.

I think that the biggest problem with mixing them with C. g. g. is going to be aggresssion. Chromidotilapia can get pretty brutal. Hybrids are possible as well.

If you are bidding... bid high... you are going to have competition!

You've got me figured out with regard to AB (and I just noticed the bid you've placed).

Anyway, I've still have about six days left to secure spousal approval for submitting a competitive bid!

Besides, additional comments regarding C. loennbergii are most welcome!

Well... according to Lamboj, the loennbergii subspecies is supposed to have numerous black markings in the dorsal fin, a trait it shares with other C. guntheri in Camaroon. Lamboj also questions the validity of the loennbergii subspecies designation. My impression of the subspecies, at least based upon Ariel Berstein's photos (which are the only pictures of loennbergii I have seen) is that the fish is more colorful than the standard for C.g.g. I am interested because of its collection locality, being in Camaroon and in Lake Barombi ba Kotto and surrounding waters.
