Hey all,

I got this plant from petco a couple weeks ago, and i wasnt sure if it was going to keep growing, but it is! Its developing roots, and new bright green leaves. Problem is, i dont know what it is. I've been looking through picture o other species but i cant really nail it. I think it might be a Gymnocoronis spilantoides but im not sure, the pictures of this plants are pretty close. Has anyone seen this plant around?

I found
GYMNOCORONIS SPILANTHOIDES
on this Swedish wholesaler-site.. Nr. 097.1486....
Is it the same?? I don`t know for sure.. It may be..
Many(most ?) plants for aquatic use are normaly/often found growing above the watersurface ..in nature..
They are then put in humid farmhouses, and also under water.. and are later being harvested and sold for/to our tanks..
In the water they may produce leaves that looks rather different from the ones you may see in their natural habitat.. (above water) !!
Search the web for Echinodorus sp/other plants... and you will find some good examples of this..

https://www.imazo.se/Servlet?page=6&parent=sB4

..and you may have some more examples in this thread...

Hi all,
Could be Penthorum sedoides <"http://tropica.com/en/plants/plantdetails/4764/4764">, but because of the length of the petioles Gymnocoronis spilanthoides looks likely.
Veins look terrestrial to me.
I agree, have a look at <"http://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/080c0106-040c-4508-8300-0b0a06060e01/media/html/Gymnocoronis_spilanthoides.htm">.

Like "MickeM" says they are all emergent marsh plants that can grow submerged. It makes production by Tropica, Dennerle etc easier, but a lot of them are sub-optimal aquarium plants.

Hi all,
http://www.paratiisintaimitarha.fi/product/2540/salvinia

Any ideas what kind of Salvinia is this and is it any good for aquariums?
Fine for the aquarium, they are "much of a muchness". You need a picture of the hairs to tell which group it belongs to, and a sporocarp to tell which species.

My guess would be Salvinia auriculata group, in which case it would have "egg whisk" shaped hairs. My suspicion would be that nearly all the Salvinia plants sold under varying names are "auriculata " group.
