we had a power failure last night, and i can tell you, i was very nervous. i presently have 4 batches of fry, 14 1/2" opal borelli, 75 nicaraguense at 1/2", 50 pea sized discus, and 50 discus 4 days free swimming, 8 fishtanks in all. all lived, no ammonia or nitrite so far. power went out at 4:10 pm yesterday, and came back on at 5:30 am this morning. oddly enough, i have a red snakeskin discus pair on eggs, and they were mostly all dead, so i can assume that eggs have a special need for o2, even more than the most sensitive fry. (2 discus in a 30 gal, 1- 6", 1- 5", corner box filter.)
all filters seem to have lived through the night, all corner box filters and aquaclears. water doesn't seem cloudy, or even dirty. i didn't do anything special, i just let things resume when the power came back. i won't be in a big hurry to get any canister filters, that's for sure, although my 90 gal BB discus/ geophagus tank has a HOT magnum with a micron filter which didn't seem to have had any problems.
pheewww!

oh, my milk went bad, so i had to have my coffee black. we are supposed to have rotating blackouts today but things seem to have settled down for now.
