New Nannacara species

Hello friends,

It has been brought to my attention that Wolfgang Staeck and Ingo Schindler described a new Nannacara species in November 2004. Nannacara quadrispinae is from the Orinoco delta in eastern Venezuela. It is closely related to N. anomala and the N. anomala-species complex forms which share a reduced number of caudal fin rays (14 vs. 16). N. quadrispinae is characterized by the possession of four spines in the anal fin.

This is the same fish as N. sp. Venezuela. I discussed it in an Apisto-gram article some years back when I had this species.
