I have naturally pillow soft water (NYC) and actually add a half teaspoon of crushed coral to my filter to bring my KH up to 3, for stability needed for carbon dioxide injection in my planted tank.
In the last two weeks I've been artifiically raising my GH at water changes... with something called GH Booster by Greg Watson... mainly calcium and magnesium. It is good for the plants to do that, and even my soft water plants (tonina fluviatilas being the most sensative) are fine with the higher GH.. BUT
BUT BUT
I was wondering for my soft water fish.. ie my apisto cacatoides, does a higher GH hurt them or are they primarilly only sensative to KH ?
I am asking because I seem to be losing my female cac.. she is just really ill. Everyone else in the tank is fine, including my male.
