I think it is hard to answer that question without a lot of long term (10+ years?) experiments. The argument for bare bottom is that it is easier to keep the aquarium clean - the argument against is that the environment is more foreign (i guess). As to the fish preference who knows - mine never actually express an opinion and I'm not eager enough to do any sort of long term control experiments esp with this species.But, what about the quality of life for the fish?
I hate to see aquarium fish in a tank with nothing in it, apart from in a shipment place where it is understandable.
