Hi all,

Yesterday I bought my first German blue rams. Before I went to the store I have read a lot about sexing gbr. In the first fish store I was yesterday it was obvious that they were all female so I went to another because I want a male and female. According to the fish store they determined with 2 employees that the smaller one was male and the bigger one female. They had to catch them to determine this so the colours were faded when I got there but should return at home they said. When they arrived home they were bland in colouring and this morning they indeed have a little more colour. But when I use all the guidelines I find online then I guess they are both female or the big one is male. Either way, I don't know anymore. Behaviour wise the smaller one chased the bigger more colourful one around yesterday and today the bigger one chases around the small one..

Please help sexing them.

The one with the red belly is a female, the other one still has the lateral stripe of a juvenile and is definitely too young to sex in my opinion.

Also on the penultimate picture I see something that might be a Camallanus worm hanging from the fish. Make sure to address this problem.

Thanks for your help. I have observed my fish and they indeed seem to have a worm infection so I will treat them.

Hurry. A camallanus parasitosis can shorten the lifespan significantly, even if treated successfully.
