How large is the tank? In small tanks (15 gallon or smaller), very few dithers will survive the attention of a mating pair of P. taeniatus. A 20H is usually ok with top-side dithers.

If you want to stay true to biotope:
Aphyosemion sp. killifish (great dithers in well planted tanks where they will feel confortable)
Procatopus sp. killifish
small African barbs or tetras

If biotope does not matter:
small tetras
danios (I use a lot of danios)
platies
anything that stays out and about and top-oriented is best

Tank is approx 25g

Looking to stay true to biotope

The tank is planted not alot but will be adding more driftwood/anubius/bolbitus soon.

i wanted to add some Norman's lampeye killifish

but will look into your suggestions.

But i do have some platies in another tank that i could use..aswell as some bentosi and lemon tetra.

If i added a P.Pulcher what would happen then?

thanks for info greatly appreciated

The normani will work just fine. I use a lot of different lamp eye killlies as dithers in my West African tanks. They stay at the top, actively school, don't get big, and seem to leave fry along-ideal dither fish traits!
