Greetings,

I ewas wondering if anyone had any insight into what may have caused this problem with my fish. I have juv. borellii in two different tanks. In one yank I had a severe problem with Hydra and had no problem in the other. In the tank that had Hydra the young fish have small dark patches on the body which are very noticeable but continue to act normally. I thought maybe the Hydra were scarring the fish but some of the locations of patches seem od dfor that to happen. I have beed lightly feeding them for about a week and a half and they seem to have just develope dthis condiion to coincide with that as well. Might it be a lack of nutrition. Thank you in advance.

What I have seen in the past is that its from the stings of the hydra. Its nothing to really worry about because its not enough to hurt them. Just keep a good eye on them and clean out the tank the best you can to kill off some of the hydra.

jaeger, ¿do you have snails in that tank?

I´m asking because I saw from time to time fishes with small black patches and in all tanks I have snails (Pomacea, Melanoides). One year ago, I decided to get rid off the snails and never saw a black patch again.

Thank you all for your help. I apologize for my tardiness in responding but I have had finals the last couple of weeks. I tried to rid the tank of the hydra naturally so I just cut back on the live foods. The were hydra everywhere. I have never seen so many in one tank (I realize this is my fault:(). The tank is now mostly clear. The patches on several of the fish are disappearing already. I do have a couple of snails in the tank but they have always been there. The dark patches just coincided with the hydra boom and are now fading during the hydra erradication. This seems like the most logical explanation for the patches at this point. Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.
