Apisto Pantalone Harem spawner???

Hi

I have a trio in a 20 gallon tank

I was checking for eggs, as I`m sure they spawned before and did find 2 batches of eggs, in 2 coconut eggs

Is it possable that 1 female took the eggs for the other female?? or are they harem spawner??

My guess is that the male has been a 'busy boy'! A. pantalone, like other nijsseni-group species, tend to form a pair bond for the breeding period. You might call this 'casual/serial monogamy'. This is done (presumably) to defend the fry in a biotope with many fry predators. In the aquarium there is less need for this, so the male may look for other females.
