several of the fish tried to spawn (I believe the L. Pulcher and multifasciatis (the multis did produce babies) and if I remember correctly the pulchers did try to spawn but were broken up by the other tank mates.
Absolutely as expected! Neolamprologus pulcher are a bit like Dicrossus filamentosus: Look like fairies, behave like (warhammer) orcs.

I think now from what I’ve read the trets and sexfasciatus would have eventually caused mayhem.
Older specimens become real ogres.

Tanganyikans are really a thing for themselves. My dad and I bred east africans for a decade and our show piece were two 250 by 80 by 80cm. (rougly 1600 Liters each) one Tanganyika, one Malawi. Big colony (about 40) wild caught Tropheus moorii, a squad Opthalmotilapia and Xenotilapia on the open water and the 1/3 with nothing but sand, in the rockwork a colony Julidochromis malierii, a handful of N. leleupi and about 8 A. calvus.

Can't remember the stocking of the Malawi tank, though. My dad was the Malawi freak, but he's not around anymore. Passed 4 years ago.

Add lelupi to the first list too. I forgot them. At the time I thought they were more aggressive than any of the others even without spawning. They were always looking for a fight. I won’t keep them again.

A dream tank for Tanganyikans would be a 500 to a 1000 gallon tank with space for the “rockies“, “shellies”, ”sandies” open waters” trophies, and frontosa.

Something like this?

Our local zoo (Cologne, Germany) some years back. I think nowerdays the tank houses rare cichlids from Madagascar.

Yes it does: Ptychochromis oligacanthus

That’s one group ‘the Lake Victorias” that I’ve not tried yet.

It’s a shame the Lake Victoria and the Nile Perch were ever introduced to each other. We will never know what beauties went down the gullet.

I had some Victorias back in the day, but usually it was only a handful of species imported. Said Zoo above has a species protection project to breed Victorias in captivity.

That was a great idea to conserve and preserve the Lake Victorian cichlids. Who knows how many species of cichlids and other fish were lost?

I would hope the Nike perch never make it into Lajes Tanganyika or Malawi. But it wouldn’t surprise me to hear sometime.
I believe I read somewhere that Nile perch don’t taste all that good either.

Unless they are “dwarf“ Nile perch.

Yes. You are correct.
I‘m a fisherman. I’ve gone to Florida and caught Oscars, red terrors, Midas, snakeheads, clown knife fish, tilapia, and the cure for the unwanted introductions (which has worked out very well) the peacock bass (they eat them) all from one lake in Florida.

Only been to Florida once and only been to the US very few times over 20 years ago, but I've seen a lot of footage of what you get out of there. absolute madness.

In the exotic animal as pets world there are many reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds and mammals that really have no place in the hone environment.
Hobbyists (not all) have proven to be irresponsible in their guardianship.

In the fish and reptile world there is no reason that things like wels and red tail cats, arapaima, pacu, paraiba, Burmese pythons and similar giants, Komodo dragons, venomous snakes, etc in the home environment.
For instance, I would really like to own a red tailed catfish, but I know I will never have a 2000 gallon plus tank that will ever be an adequate home for the fish.

We had a lady in our local club that had a baby red-tail cat in a 200 gallon tank. She loved it so much that when it quickly out-grew the tank she had a small 10 x 5 foot swimming pool built in her house (sunroom). Me? At that size I'd have eaten it.

Same.

And I will just keep my mouth shut what I've seen on Fishlore. I shiver thinking about that.
People are building crazy sized tanks today.
They just have huge predators that look bored and don’t do much besides eat.
I would take one of those huge tanks and put small, medium, fish etc. Then decorate it well then sit back and enjoy all the variety.

Would it taste good? Btw my largest aquarium is 10x4 foot but it is not swimming pool and my largest fish is only around 8 or 10 inches.

For me if i moved i want to do a 12 foot x 5 foot x 16 inch aquarium and populate it with either caridinals or a sp 51 ;)

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
