Sounds like typical apisto behavior to me.

I guess but some behave differently then others....

Looks like she only had 9 to 11 frys (which is similar to last 2 times); like the wolli she keeps them on the sponge filter (food i suppose) and she scoots off when i feed them bbs via a pipette -

This is very different to the kribs which will allow me to put my fingers next to the frys (i'm feeding them flakes now); or the e. lucaniusi which seems to bring the frys to the front for me to feed and take them away after i feed them.

In truth the africans (well kribs and el) seem more adaptive to new situations then a lot of the apisto. The n teugelsi less so.

Anyway as long as she keeps them on the sponge they are easy to feed as it is the back corner next to the glass and if a predator does show up they will just hope down between the glass and sponge where they can't be reached.

I've had these for a bit over 2 years and they were young adults so at least 3 years old - some pictures of the adult male:

and 3 pictures of one of his f1 males (i was noticing some orange form on the tail and wanted to compare him to the adult):

In the aquarium he looks a little different but in the picture he is a splitting image of his father.

In truth the original male/female seem to be doing pretty well - the female spawned a month or two ago and other then looking at the calendar they seem to be aging quite well compare to the ladisalo. Also seem to be growing nicer looking as they get older (but i suppose that is an imho since you might disagree)

I went back and tweaked the gamma to compensate for the phone compensation:

In the corrected images you can see the orange tips forming in the tail at the very end - which stand out a lot more in the aquarium.
