    Flashy dancer....

Agreed. Likely Pelvicachromis taeniatus 'wouri', judging from the prominent yellow patch on the body of the females and the pattern of the tail on the male that I can make out in the first picture. Wonderful colours on the females.

    Pelvicachromis taeniata mosleri

I wish I could apologise on behalf of my countrymen but that is not possible.:frown: Some shops and hobbyist from my country seem to have a habit of not knowing the proper names of a lot of species of fish they sell, sometimes making names up in the process. Sometimes even when...

    bentitochromis conjunctus in UK

You're right. Seems to be off their list recently. I can vouch for their subocellatus. The males are   Used to have 2, but one had come down with belly-crawling after a spawning attempt some 2 months or more back and has sinced passed on.

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

I would love to get my hands on them but I am too far. :frown:

    bentitochromis conjunctus in UK

Nice catch. Pics? Which shop? Last I knew, Trimar had some, labelled as Benitochromis sp. Muyuka, I think.

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Ah, Wildwoods. Thanks. I wanted to go visit the last time I went to London but there was no time. Heard it's a really great place to go.

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Hey guys, if it is not too much trouble could you PM me the shop name and site URL if they have one? Want to check it out. Thanks.

    ID the locale

That is a stunning specimen  You do have quite a valid point there about characteristics enhanced in captive specimens over a few genarations. Though possibility of this male having nigerian form blood I am not so sure about since I seem to notice the nigerian forms lack the red/blue...

    ID the locale

Um, I'd just like to share a bit of my own observation from my own dehanes. The females I had also used to exhibit the orange-red cheek stripe. Here is one of them. In my setup the orange stripe in both sexes were rather faint, but should still be able to see it. Hope the link works for you...

    bely crawling

Will this condition affect spawning very much? such as in Pelvicachromis species?

    Swimbladder problem in Pelvicachromis

Steatocranus...genus includes cichlids like the Blockhead cichlid, S. casuarius. These have reduced swimbladders. Another group of cichlids I believe are like this are the boby cichlids or something. Anyway, this is how my fish is sort of swimming about, hopping around on his belly.:frown:

    Swimbladder problem in Pelvicachromis

One of my male Pelvicachromis subocellatus Matadi has seemed to have lost the use of his swimbladder and is swimming rather like a Steatocranus I believe. He is otherwise is good health with a hearty appetite. This happened over a week ago. Am treating for bacterial though. What I would like...

    Body shapes of taeniatus

I recently got a product called WormerPlus, been wanting to try it out though measuring how much to use could be tricky. One sachet treats 50 gallons, but my tank is smaller than that. Trying to figure out how first to administer it right now.

    Body shapes of taeniatus

Nope, not laid eggs before. Though at some point this female did like to disappear into the broken cups for long periods. What am I feeding? A mixture of foods, really. TetraPro Vegetable, TetraPrima, freeze dried Cyclopeeze, TetraDelica daphnia, bloodworm and brineshrimp, frozen special...

    Body shapes of taeniatus

Was wondering something about the body shape of females certain forms of taeniatus. For certain forms, like Wouri, from pictures and live fish, I notice they have closer body shape to that of pulcher, which is they have rounded bellies. But for certain forms, like Dehane, I notice the female...

    Pel. sp. 'blue fin'

Impressive blog. Keep us updated. I plan to get some soon in the summer. My recent attempt at getting them failed.

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus and their variants

I see I see...forgot about the tail spot difference in some localities as well. I have 2 pairs of Dehanes. My LFS recently got a female taeniatus in as a contaminant, he was not sure what it was but it was undeniably wouri with it's nice bright gold patch near the dorsal on midbody. It was...

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus and their variants

This is interesting. Thus far, we may have the Cameroon forms(Dehane and ....the rest:confused: ), the Wouri, the Nigerians(red, yellow and green?) and the Moliwe(isn't this the most common in the hobby?), is it?
