Unknown apisto. Ap. caetai?

I picked up a pair of these apistos a couple of weeks ago. They
were labelled blue head apisto. I'm tryingt o ID them. I think they're
A. caetai. Can anyone confirm this?
BTW - they spawned a couple of days ago. I should have free
swimming fry in another couple of days.

FWIW, I'd lean towards piauiensis, but I'm not entirely confident...

It could be a young paiunsis. I have had paiunsis since they were .5 inch right now they are fully grown and dont look anything like the fish.

Definitely a ragani group fish, but i don't think it is a piauiensis. At least, it doesn't look like the ones I have had. I am pretty sure that is a caetei. Very nice fish though. I love the baby blue base color and the facial markngs are profound.

Yikes, I think you're right, Neil. I was thinking that caetei tends to show a solid body band rather then spots, but I wasn't thinking that this was a variable feature that's highly dependent on mood...

The link kribs has up there of the young pebas is my friends fish, they are some very nice fish. He has a tank load of them growing out, exellent form and exellent coloring. I know he has them for sale too.
