Howdy. I was sure I had an account here, but well, I cant seem to find it, so new one.
I bred some Trifasciata a while ago. Recently bought, they spawned almost immediately upon being introduced to my aquarium, and got about 30 or so fry. End of the day, about 15 survived, there was a dismal survival rate. After that, they spawned again, and I counted up to 70 fry. And then the female suddenly decided everything was lunch. Since then, she spawned about four times, and after a couple of days the eggs were always gone.
The question is: is it possible she won't rear any more until the old fry are removed from the tank? There's only about seven or eight left, the rest have all found homes.
The tank is an 80 liter, one male, one female, 7/8 two cm juvies, a half dozen shrimp, three or four pygmy crabs, six Otos, six nannostomus marginatus. And snails, a bunch of 'em.
The crabs are another possible cause. But still, I find it odd. There's just no way they can fend off an angry Apisto mum.
