Trying to spawn Apistogramma sp. pebas

I have a pair of pebas that I now strongly believe to be a male & a female.

Unfortunately due to my living situation right now when I found them (I've always wanted this species so I knew I had to buy them) I had to house them in my good friends community tank. The female is bright yellow now, & the male is really starting to show his beautiful blues.

My question is what water parameters do I need to be at to encourage them to spawn & do I absolutely need to move them into their own tank? If I have to move them into their own tank, then I will have to wait another month or two before I can consider doing that. If not, then I'll just spend some time tweaking the water parameters without crashing the tank.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you want fry you'll need to remove them to a breeding tank. Otherwise the other community members get a good meal. Water values should be pH 6.0-6.5 and moderately soft - dKH < 5°, cond. <100 µS/cm.

Mike is about absolutely right about getting their own tank if you want to get serious about breeding them
I have bred pebas in a community tank successfully (plecos and rainbows) but yields are low..like 2-5 surviving into juveniles.

About water parameters, I have found pebas to be very tolerant to water conditions. My ph is 7.2-7.4.

Thanks for the advice.

I am currently working on setting up a 10g breeder for the pebas. I think I'll try spawning them just below neutral at first & if that doesn't work I will lower to pH. I'll update this thread if I have any luck.
