Hi apisto lovers
Success has visited me! last week my cacs spawned and the fry have survived this time, about a week now. Mom brings them into the cave every night. I have a night light set up, because she doesn't always get them in there before the lights go out. But the night light seems to help.
We love to watch them and hope they make it! Mom is very good at chasing away the rummy nose tetras. As long as she is protecting them I guess they will be OK.
Just thought I'd let you all know. Thnaks for all of your help.

Congrats. My cacs have eggs now. Hopefully, this will lead to fry. What were your water parameters and what did you feed?

I have a 72G planted tank, ph 6.9, kH 6, injecting C02, lots o' light. The pair of cacs share the tank with a school of rummynoses, some plecos, otos, and an SAE. Gonna get me some algae-eating shrimp today.

You mean feeding before they spawned? Various freeze-dried and frozen shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms. Occasionally live blackworms.

Their spawning cave is an upside-down small flowerpot with the drainhole filed JUST big enough for the female to get in. The male fanned the milt into the hole- I saw him do it!

Good luck to you- I hope you don't have too many other fish....more work for mom.

In a week or so my apisto pal is going to give me a pair of panduros for a 10g!

I think we need a T-shirt or bumper sticker that reads: "Ask me about my apistos" or "I'd rather be doing a water change".
