a LFS has what they are calling subocellatus "matadi". the famles clearly look right, but the male has a red face, or at least a lot of red on the gill plates. it has very little colour on the body and has a well pattenered tail. The body is quite long and slender, althougth part of that is that it is a bit skinny. If I didn't know better I would say it was a taeniatus, but the fish came from Montreal (biotope maybe) and I am just wondering if they might have gotten the males mixed up and sent the wrong ones. I really want a pair, but not if they are not a pair if that makes sense. I will try to get a picture of the fish, but it just does not look like any picture of a male subocellatus I have ever seen. has any one seen a subocellatus with red on the gill plates before?
