Abacaxis hybridize with agassizii?

So I have a 75g with a male fire red agassizi and a harem of 4 females. Went to my LFS and they had a pair of abacaxis that I just couldn't resist. I figured I'd try it out and worst case I would just bring them back.
The fire red male has been going after the abacaxis male a bit and i don't see the male out much, so not off to a great start. The female, however, I've seen him pursue more than any of his females ever (she's huge) and I've seen him flashing toward her a ton. She hasn't seemed too receptive. Does anyone know if they're able to hybridize?

Can they try… sure. Can they hybridize…probably not. abacaxis X agassizii, no. Abacaxis X pulchra, yes.

That sounds like a recipe for disaster, two different species and 7 fish in a 75g is very difficult due to territorial aggression. There will likely be no fertile offspring, if eggs are even conceived. I would recommend sticking with the fire reds and moving the A. abacaxis to their own tank (if you can, gorgeous fish.)

I would recommend posting an image of the tank, btw A. abacaxis are suited for different water values than domestic A. agassizii “fire red” (pretty incompatible.)

Good luck.

Hi guys I'm new in this page, I'm having trouble with one of my apistogramma agassizii pairs the seem not to be coupling up , I'm using the exact same tank that I've use in the past to couple a pair successfully
