Strange apisto! Help with the ID?

Hi - I purchased the above juvenile here in Hong Kong for next to nothing - apparently it came from the same parents as the pictured mature fish (although mine seems much more colourful! Someone on Reddit thought it was a Badis Badis from Nepal without seeing the adult picture!). Does anyone have any idea what it is? I wondered if it might be a. caetei just looking around at a few pictures online but could be very wrong!

Thank you so much Mike. There seems to be little on care for the Regani group compared to some of the other types - do you (or anyone else) have any tips? Are they fairly similar in terms of day to day care to, say, a. cacatoides?

*Edit: just realised you're the author of one of the few articles on them that I was reading at http://apisto.sites.no/page.aspx?pageid=116 I'm humbled! Thanks for your help! I lived in Latin America for many years so it's nice to be keeping fish from there.

Regani-complex species are found in every type of water from fully white-water (eg. A. sp. Gelbwangen) to true blackwater (A. sp. Cuiari). I'd start with slightly acid and moderately soft water first. Most apistos will live in these condition, even if they won't successfully reproduce in them.
