i recently aquired a group of A. eremnopyge. i have all six in a 20 long. i was wondering if anyone has any tips on inducing these fish to spawn. currently i am using r/o water w/ a ph of about 6.2 i am doing weekly 25% water changes. the tank has a dark colored, fine gravel substrate some driftwood w/ java moss and a few flower pots. is there is anything else i can do to help these fish to spawn?

Hello scott,

Again, the most important thing to do is give them a good diet of live foods and fresh clean water! They will spawn when ready but it can be acheived faster and much more productive if they have a good diet of brine shrimp (baby brine + grown), CBWs, etc. Frozen food is good food too, but I have found some problems with illnesses that can come from too much of that. That's the only sound advice I can offer to you. If I'm correct, then A. Eremnopyge are from the same group of fish as A. Bitaeniata, so I'd say soft very acidic water is a must also. Good luck

thanks for the info guys. my main concern was how soft and acidic the water should be. the one thing i notice about them is that they are very shy. they all dart for cover as soon as i enter the fish room. they don't come to the surface to feed like my cacs or borelli's . i have to hide around a corner after feeding them to be able to watch them come out to eat. i've only had them for about 2 weeks though so i guess they will settle in eventually. thanks again guys :)
