i have a male p. taeniatus nyete a little over an inch....his aunt is slightly bigger and older.

my questions...is it ok to breed them (his mother was the sister to the female in question...his father is from another breeder).

also is it safe for the male since he is smaller then the female.

finally is a 10gal planted ok to breed them with one or two platies?

thanks

You should not have any problems. Asmaller male helps reduce male aggression on a female, but if the male is too small the female may not initiate sourtship... but he will grow.

Thanks Ted. Now i can get this project started.

Fish room is almost ready. What has delayed me is finding a system to remove water from multiple tanks simultaneously. I am anxiously waiting for you to start reworking your fish room.

Again thanks!!

Unfortunately you will be waiting a while. :frown: I estimate the cost to be about $4000 to make the overhaul I want, and funds are scarce with a trip to Cameroon coming up. If what you are trying to do is set up a flow-through water change system, all you really need to do is drill the tanks with overflows and plumb a line for water to be pumped into the tanks. Water changes are them accomplished by turing on the water. If the quality of the tap water is fine, you can run the tap through two sediment prefilters and a carbon block to get rid of chlorine and other chemicals in the tap water before it goes straight to the tanks. Tap pressure woudl also allow you to use volume controlled emitters, such as 1 gallon per hour drips used in landscape irrigation, which need about 15 psi of pressure to operate correctly.
