asian bred rams have been called "death with fins" because it seems that they never live very long. if you are interested in mikrogeophagus ramirezi your best bet is to look for wild fish or locally bred fish. you can give the asian bred ones a try but i myself have had dozens of them and they all died in a week or less. recently i picked up a pair of wild caught rams. they spawned within a week and now are raising about 20 fry.
to answer your question about cross breeding. hybridizing fish is NEVER a good idea! i don't think that altispinosa and ramirezi can cross breed anyway
,although i have been wrong in the past(quite often actually), but there are lots of species that can so it is a good idea not to keep similar species together when there is a possibility of hybridizing.

i hope you have better luck with them than i did if you get them. i've tried everything i can think of to no avail. let me know how they do for you. it's too bad you're not in the US or i would ship you some of my rams when they are old enough.

the owner of the store was really happy when I was pickin them out cose I wanted a time alone choosin this pair ( took me about 15 min) and further more he want me to shop entirely at his place cose I picket the rigth fins :) ;)

naggur, i don't believe that bolivian rams and blue rams make good tankmates. the bolivian (ruby) rams are too tough for the blue rams ime.
