Greetings! I have volunteered to take on the Picture of the Month (POTM) contest for our Apistogramma.com Forum. Please take some time to read the following and provide any input.

The first contest under these proposed rules will begin in May. The rules may change depending on input and/or circumstances. Feel free to email me at [email protected] or post below with any questions or concerns.

It is my hope that in time, we have enough submissions to have two contests each month; one for amateur photographers, and one for more advanced.

SUBMISSION OF PHOTOS
· All entries should be emailed to: [email protected]
Please include your User Name and POTM in the subject line.
In the body of the email, please include the species name and a brief description of the fish.
· You are allowed one (1) entry per month.
· Do not attach photos or link to photos directly in the thread.
· Photos being submitted should not have been posted to or linked to apistogramma.com before, nor should they be in one’s avatar.
PHOTO FORMATS
· Accepted formats of images are .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif; .jpg being preferred.
· Photo must not have any watermark, copyright mark, or any such mark, imprint, label, or representation which identifies the photo to a specific source.
· Photo must not have been tampered, manipulated, or distorted.
o Basic adjustments for contrast or brightness, cropping, and rotation are allowed, however,
o Major manipulations such as color changing, removing or adding objects, and other “photo shopping” are against the spirit of the competition and may result in rejection of submission.
· Photos MUST BE your own. Stealing intellectual property is a BIG no-no.
CONTEST FORMAT:
· The voting schematic will be configured by the POTM coordinator. Photos will be placed in the voting system in the order in which they are received, the first being first, and last being listed last.
· Entries will be allowed from the 1st to the 19th of each month. Voting will start on the 20th and continue to the end of the month.
· Each forum member will be allowed one (1) vote for each contest.
· Only one submission, per member, per month will be accepted.
· If one user wins two months in a row, they will sit out the next month’s contest.
· ANY SOLICITATION OF VOTES VIA PM, OR THREAD WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION
· We may hold special contests with unique rules and/or prizes which we will make every attempt to announce the month prior with the additional rules explained.
· Ownership rights of the photo remain with the original submitter; however, we may ask permission to use the photo for promotional use or other such uses we wish to take on.

Suggestions and questions are welcome and appreciated!

Thank you for voluntering.

Just to dot the 'i', shouldn´t the rules state something about which motifs are allowed?

Maybe not the right word. I just seem to remember it being explicitly stated in the prior rules of the contest, that only pictures of dwarf cichlids (maybe the tanks that housed them?) were allowed. It should be obvious with this being a dwarf cichlid site, but I just figured perhaps to mention it.

If once you had taken a photo, and it was a great photo except that there was a water smudge mark on the glass of the aquarium, could you be forgiven for just getting rid of it? Or is the no photoshop policy strict?

I'd like to think that the competition would be of the spirit where that kind if detail was forgiven. Some photos are the moment, and that can make the photo - even if it's a mobile phone shot, if it's a rare moment that is rarely seen, then that is up there with a crystal clear DSLR shot of a fish keeping still for the pic.
