I have been fussing over the P. gabonicus so much I ignored the P. brevirostris in the tank below. I have a pair in the same set up (20 gallon long, dark lighting, moss-filled caves, lowered pH). I pulled the extra female out a few days ago... dead. She was pretty beat. I did not see the pair. They hide way in the back.
Today I noticed about 12 fry that are well over a week old... they are easy a centimeter long already. The female looks a little rough, and I cannot see the male. She charges back into the dark recesses often, and I assume she is hammering the male. I am going to try to get him out of there.
It looks like there is another female very ripe in another tank... hopefully they will breed too.
