I bought a pair of wild caught A. uaupesi some time ago. I know that uaupesi can be hard to pair up, but fortuitously we discovered that this pair had bred when they were being packed at the shop - turns out that the female had been guarding eggs in the cave that unfortunately got disturbed when I decided to purchase them. Fast forward a few months, the pair has been living peacefully with each other in 2 different tanks (I moved them when I changed my fish rack system). I recently started a 24/7 drip auto water change system in the tank using ro water and added catappa leaves and the change in water quality seems to have triggered something about a week after I made the changes - they continued acting normal for the first week but the female was getting yellow. The female disappeared into hiding for about 8 days (probably under the leaves) so I was hoping that they had bred again finally. However, after 8 days she reappeared no longer yellow and the male showed damage on his tail. There are no other fish in the tank so it could only be the female that attacked him. Now the female hides a lot more than previously and at times during feeding the male charges at her, though I haven't actually seen him hurt her. Could the pair somehow have unpaired?
