I haven't kept them, but I think you need a larger tank, definitely one with a lot more floor area.I have a pair of F1 apistogramma ortegai. My tank is 40x20x20. My water quality is tds 50 pH 6.0. I want to breed this pair. Is there anyone who has successfully breed this kind. Can you share my some information about the water parameter. Thanks a lot!
Mine were wc hybrid (story in another thread); but while one of the female was very aggressive to the other two females the other 3 fishes did not show much aggression - though my aquarium was quite large being 3 times longer and twice as wide and space does of course makes a difference but given the space they showed very little aggression as long as the two other females avoided ms alpha. Ms. alpha is still alive and one of the betta died 2 weeks ago - i had to split them up when i learn they were hybrid but today ms alpha is around 3 to 3 1/2 years old. Sadly she still bites. er 3+ years of ownership she was an adult when purchased so who knows how old she is - but she is still a hybrid - i couldnt' get her to grow out of that triatHi all,

My understanding is that they're quite aggressive, and I'm not sure that is a big enough footprint for any breeding Apistogramma.
