I keep these fish for about 2 years. The male is 4-5 inches and the female is
4 "".
A few times i have some eggs. Both parents protects the eggs.
Whenn the fry becane freeswimming the female were hunted away by the male.
I don,t know of this behavior belong to these fishes.
What do you mean with P multifasciatus. Do you mean P. nigrofasciatus.
Yes they are certainly better parents.
Do they require softer or more acidic water for the eggs to hatch? The only articles that talk about this species are in German, and unfortunately my German is not what it used to be. It seems like the fish will survive in neutral to slightly alkaline water, but I haven't read anythiong about the egg requirements.
I kept mine in normal tapwater.
It has the folow parameters
Ph 7,7
Dh 9,9
My fish swim together with other cichlids, like Hemichromis and Tilapia.
No acid supplement i have used.
Breeding was no problem.
