I just received some new A. cacatuoides... orange-flash and yellow-body orange-flash. I also got some wild A. aggassizii. Now all I need is new tank space...

Fry are the problem Rick... too many. I am limiting breeding space. So far two 40Br are dedicated solely to growing out fish. They are both full, and I have two tens with young spawns growing out to the size where I throw them in a 40. In the breeding tanks there are three Pelvicachromis on broods as well as A. sp. maulbruder and A. panduro. The A veijeta are warming up, and I have no idea why the very yellow and very rotund A. borelli females have not bred or popped. There are two tanks and 35 jars of betta growouts. A tank of pink convict growouts and another of pink convict fry. Honduran redpoint growouts. C. sajica making spawning motions.

I have discovered the secret to success with these fish after struggling for many years with small spawns here and there... attention. Being home means feeding smaller amounts more frequently and jumping on water quality before it causes permanent damage. I used to feed heavily twice a day and water change whenever I had the chance.

C. Sajica teenagers

I bought 3 rarely seen ( In My Area ) Sajicas a week ago and despite them only being about 1 1/4 inches long two of them have already paired up. I seem to have 2 females and 1 male. The little females already have yellow / gold dorsal fins and the little male is sporting a nice blue with red speckles dorsal fin. I already like them
They are in a 90 gallon tank for now and will be moved to a 55 gallon hen they get to about 2 inches.
Problem in the well planted and with plenty of hiding places 55 gallon is the catching of 3 Synodontis eupterus as I fear they would eat any eggs that the pair may lay.
I was fortunate in this purchase as the store only had a dozen of them and sold 9 before I was aware of them.

My premature retirement due to an injury has been a blessing when it comes to raising fish. I know it is supposed to be a hobby but it can easily be a full time job. Being able to feed small amounts frequently was never an option while working but having nothing but time has been a big help when it comes to feeding fry so they grow their best.
I don't recommend driving over a cliff to get time to raise more fish to anybody. There has to be a better way to find the time.

Ted,
Doesn't it sort of irritate you when a fish like A. borelli plays hard ball? I had a favorite strain of Opal type I had raised for generations from the original wild pair. I always took it for granted that I could spawn them anytime I wanted. Well, I waited too long with my very last trios. They lived in my Heckel Discus display tank just long enough that I think they prematurely reached old age and nothing I tried ever got those last fish to spawn. I would have been happy if I only had been able to get a dozen new fry for replacement. Not the greatest photo and you can see signs of senility in the male but at least it shows why I liked this particular line of borelli. The Male.

The females were willing.

Hi Jose,
Thank you for your most generous offer but by the time I paid for all the import license, Customs, air freight they would cost me way more than buying from an established importer. Probably $50 per pair.
I do buy Austrolebias eggs from Heber Salvia, Montevideo, Uruguay, which we can mail for only a few dollars postage so I get a small taste of your beautiful native fishes.

Hi Ted,
Have you seen the steel stands sold at Home Depot for $125? They will hold 6 Aqueon 40 gal breeder tanks with minor modification of adding a wooden platform to each shelf. The fit couldn't be any closer but 2 40's fit per tier.
Space is tight for me so this is the best photo could get to show you the finished set up. It is the most efficient use of space for this size tank I could come up with.
