To the Forum,

Just out of press (December 1, 2003) is a scientific description of Neolamprologus devosi, a new riverine lamprologine cichlid from the lower Malagarasi River in Tanzania.

Authors Robert Schelly, Melanie Stiassny and Lothar Seegers acknowledge that the genus Neolamprologus is poorly defined and that genetic reassignment may be necessary after work on the phylogeny of the lamprologines is completed.

Thank you.

Strange, a non-Tang Neolamprologus.

Well that certainly throws a wrench into things doesn't it?

Hmmmm....

How does one get access to these publications?

Lamprologines

Dear Brett,

Lamprologines are really not my thing, but there is a clade of riverine Lamprologus. The genus is currently being revised by Doctors Robert Schelly and Melanie Stiassny. When their findings are published, I'll report back here in the Forum.

Neolamprologus devosi is tentatively placed in the genus Neolamprologus because it differs from the riverine Lamprologus. The describers expect that genetic reassignment will be necessary.

How does one get access to these publications?

Through various sources. One can subscribe to some journals; or in some instances, purchase individual papers through the publishers. Most major museums and universities have publication departments, and their materials can be ordered online. Some of my library is furnished directly from the authors.

Scientific descriptions of

Apistogramma acrensis Staeck 2003
A. inornata Staeck 2003
A. similis Staeck 2003
A. tucurui Staeck 2003
A. velifera Staeck 2003

are published in Wolfgang Staeck's new book, Cichliden-Lexikon, Teil 3, Sudamerikanische Zwergbuntbarsche. Dahne Verlag, 2003. S. 219. ISBN 3-935175-13-2.

Thank you.
