I've got this 3 support MDF tv stand which is the perfect size for my 15 gallon - there's no max load indicated on it so was wondering if you guys think it would be up to the job baring in mind I have sand substrate and a handful of stones as well. Any thoughts?

Your aquarium set-up will weigh ~150 lbs. Without knowing how and from what the stand is constructed, I wouldn't hazard a guess. I personally wonder about the stability (flexing) of the rear corners.

I second Mike, I probably wouldn't risk it long term. I used a similar idea but added several structural supports for the extra load.

As said above, the back looks most questionable.
If you wanted to test it you might be able to add a few sandbags or rocks to the top to see how it reacts to the weight.
Obviously there's no way to tell how it will work in the long term and it may not be worth the risk versus something that will give you peace of mind.
