Just where do A. Borellii lay their eggs in nature?

I'm setting up a tank with the hopes of having A. Borellii spawn, and I want to loosely simulate the flooded savannah biotope in which they can be found in Argentina. I've done a bit of searching, and I can find above water photos of those waters, but I haven't found any underwater images or really descriptions of the habitat down there or upon what surfaces they might naturally lay their eggs upon. Any guidance is much appreciated!

First thing I do in such a case is looking at footage on Youtube. if you can't find anything for a certain species, look for another from the same habitat. That's why I searched for H. elachys.

Basically what you are looking for is to recreate a flooded meadow.

Here are some examples:

The fish take whatever they can find as a shelter for spawning. Leaves, live plants, pieces of wood or they dig under small rocks.

And just to make it complete, here are two tanks recreating the habitat.

Thanks! I didn't think of looking for footage of tetras that inhabit the same wetlands. I also hadn't thought about how the land had been turned to pasture from forest. Like they say, "life finds a way".

Usually I look up "Species name + habitat" or "Species name + in the wild". If that doesn't give any proper results (as in case of A. borellii) I look up sympatric species.

Well, don't get it wrong, these wetlands are mostly savannah in the dry season anyway, always were. But for decades they are drying out the land for pasture. Cattle doesn't like to stand in water, so they drained a lot of the area, reducing the wetlands.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
