Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has keep these species before. I would like to learn more about the living enviroment and rearing of them before purchasing a pair of them in the future.

Wonder is there anyone who can enlighten me or is there any website to learn more about these apistos.

Thanks

Regards
Nicholas

This is A. uaupesi that is exported from São Gabriel on the upper Rio Negro of Brazil. It is a blackwater species, requires very soft & acid (below pH 5!) water to breed consistantly. It is best to buy more than a single pair since some females will not breed with just any male.

Are they easy to keep?

Currently I am only keeping a pair of ap Bitaeniata & A. iniridae.

Currently the tank ph is around 5.5 (ADA Africana and Sera Peat). How do I bring down the PH to below 5?

If you can keep A. iniridae, then you can keep A. uaupesi. Only breeding needs the more acid conditions. You might need to reduce the KH of your water slightly to drop the pH if peat does not drop the pH below 5. My tap water is <2º dKH. I can drop the pH to below 4 with peat.
