ID Assist - sold as A. "Sunset", likely A. macmasteri

The LFS I work at received fish from our wholesaler under A. "sunset". Now that they've grown I am very confident it is not A. atahualpa (not that common names ever mean much). I'm pretty certain it's in the macmasteri subcomplex, if not just A. macmasteri itself, but I figured I would get my assessment doubled checked.

Unfortunately we no longer have any females (sold before I started working here).

They are for sure A. macmasteri or a very closely related species. I agree.

Common names are at least somewhat consistent within a common language (meaning e.g. in German all common names are treated somewhat official, shops included), but tradenames (like "Sunset") are a terrible, terrible mess.

Sunset is usually used for A. atahualpa in my experience.

I know, I was talking about the difference between common name (also usually scientifically accepted) and trade name (pure marketing). And one could consider naming conventions for scientifically undescribed species as well. That's what makes all of this so complicated.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
