How to tell whether it is a old Apisto?

Hi everybody,

I have reading from this forum for some time now but have not participated. A short introduction. I have been keeping fish for about 10 years now, have always fancinated with Apisto. I have some success in breeding Borelli, Trifasciata and Bitaeniata. I also have some success in breed some dwarf cichlids namely Candidi and Anomala. Have learnt a lot you guys from the forum especially Mike Wise.

Now back to question, anybody have a clue?

Older fish usually hare larger, heavier in the body, and highly developed finnage. Males usually have a bullish looking head. Females often show subtle mascualine features like the hints of a double tipped tail on species with double tipped males. Females of species that have fins other than round often start to show a squared of back edge of the caudal, too. Once you have kept these species for a long time, you can "see" the age of a fish & recognize it in other specimens.

It is good to know that the Forum (and me) have helped you. It is a good place to get fairly reliable information on dwarfs.
