How many tanks do you need to breed macs
I already have a male in a heavily planted 17 gallons how many other tanks do I need to keep them until a selling point

My experience is a minimum of 2 plus at least 1 if you need to separate one of the parents. The grow-out tank needs to be larger than the breeding tank, depending on the number of fry.

Thank you but how do you know when you have to take the male out

For me when the male starts eating the fry [which my male Mac. has a fondness for] or the female chases him and he has nowhere to go to escape, if they all get along than I remove the fry after 6-8 weeks.
