Female aggression

Hi all,

I recently got a young pair of Ap. sp. Rotkeil..i like the male fish a lot for its nice finnage and coloration. Initially they seem to be getting along quite well with the male swimming after the female fish.

Now the problem is the female had become somewhat aggressive...nipping the fins off the male :cry: and ?kissing or ?biting the male's belly now and then. I wonder if she's tryin to breed but the male is not ready? Anyone have an explanation for the behaviour? Would appreciate any advice on what i should do as well. ( i am trying not to separate the pair as i have very limited tank space)

Femaile aggression??

Hello John, maybe your female has already spawned. I have had some females which after they spwan always chase and even nipp at the males fins and chase them away. Try to keep an eye on the female to see if she is gaurding eggs.

I don't think she had spawned..not exactly in brood coloration, no eggs anywhere and she's not really chasing away the male. More like going after it all around the tank
