well i am on my way to getting my tank ready and wanted to know what you guys thing of my stocking idea, its a 36x12x15inch tank and i would like to keep 1pair cockatoos, 1pair golden rams, 1pair kribensis and maybe 4 or 5 corydoras, is this ok or will the kribs clash with the others? i know they can be aggressive when breeding.

The kribs will clash with the other dwarfs and the corys will probably be attacked by all of the cichlids if they have fry. Do you want a community tank or a tank for breeding? A better community tank will be the Rams and apistos (2 male apistos would be more "showy") with some mid- & upper-level swimming schooling fish. If you want a tank with a chance of getting fry, I would get 2 male & 3-4 female A. cacatuoides and add some upper-lever target fish like pencilfish, hatchetfish or smaller anabantoids.

It's my first post here so welcome all.

I almost agree:wink:... Generally corys are bottom dwellers and make some danger to apistos' eggs and fry. But some pygma corys (c. pygmaeus, c. hastatus, c. habrosus) are as well bottom and mid-level swimming spacies and they're rather not interested in apistos' fry. That's why - at least in my tanks - apistos treat them as an air... even while breeding.

I agree with these 3 species of Corydoras. They are unusual in that they are not totally bottom-living species. These are both very small and more like target fish. The rest of the species in the genus will cause problems.
