Oh no I’m fully aware that sellers will name whatever they want, but just wanted to have an idea of what strains im looking at, more than likely I’ll just stick with a wild colourThere's one thing to consider: There are no donestic strain-standards, so every breeder can call their strain whatever they want. That's why many colour breeds are sold under a number of different names, even though they all look the same. Just as a heads up if (rather when) confusion arises what you actually have in front of you.
I work in an aquatics shop so I luckily have access to a lot of lists haha I just have to suck up to get themAh, I see.
Wild type is hard to come by in many countries, but definitely better than any domestic breeds.
I can get a few different locals and forms which is why I wanted to seeThere are ~15 recognized species/form/populations of A. (cf.) cacatuoides - and I'm sure more will be found. Add to that we don't know where the holotype A. cacatuoides is from. It certainly isn't from "Dutch Guiana" (Surinam) as quoted in the original description.
This my triple red and my orange morph a. cacatuoides.Going to be picking up a pair of cacatuoides soon, out of the apistos I’ve kept I’ve never actually kept these
I know the difference between double and triple reds, but can anyone show me some photos of the colour forms they keep?
That orange is a beauty!
they look a little like the ones that were sold to me as rio something or other. nice looking fishes. My pair were not aggressive to each other but were a terror to everything else in the aquarium high or low (40B).These are some wild ones I had from Colombia, I don't know the location they were collected from though.View attachment 16961View attachment 16962
My WC eunotus, absolute devils that couldn’t even tolerate snailsMine are murderers. They tolerate no life forms.
I have, I’ve also bred macmasteri and agassizii in both community and solo tanksHave you read experiences here with apistos that breed in a community aquarium?
