Breeding Blue Ram

I just got a pair of Blue Rams last Sunday, they were purchaced at an auction as a "Breeding Pair". I just have a quick question, does the female drop her tube just before they spawn (like Angelfish)? Her belly looks like it is starting to turn pink/purple, but it is not nearly as bright as most of the pictures I have seen, but I am sure I can see a small tube (maybe just wishful thinking on my part). Any thoughts are appriciated as I am new to Rams.

Thanks

Breeding Mikrogeophagus ramirezi

Hello Fenster,

Yes, when female Mikrogeophagus ramirezi are sexually active, the ovipositor is visible.

Good luck with your pair!

All the best,

Randall Kohn

Thanks, I just watched them spawn! Not sure how many eggs there are as I did not want to disturb or distract them too much, but there are lots.

monroe, or
Rams are my favorites, love watching their antics and the rearing behavior too. Hope your water is nice and soft, maybe you will get some fry. :)

Z-Man, yes I did get them at the auction in Boston NY. It was the first time I have ever been to an aquatic auction. I contacted Randy by email and he gave me some pointers/advice prior to the auction. I only stayed a couple of hours but enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to anyone close enough to attend. You guys put on a very nice event. The pair was from Table#1 Item #DM11 (If I remenber correctly), would they happen to be a pair of yours?

farm41, my hardness is about 80ppm.

No they didn't come from me as I was unable to attend. That will be about the biggest all species auction you will ever attend. Usually runs from 11am to 9pm with about 160 items per hour.

Z-man, thats what Randy told me also, I was fortunate enough to get a chance to talk to him at the auction. I definitely am planning on going next year.

Looks like I am going to lose most or all of the the spawn. Yesterday about half were missing and this morning the remainder appeared to be fungused. My wife called me at work to let me know most of the eggs were gone. O'well maybe next time.
