Breeding apistogramma panduro

I have a pair of panduro, they seem to be a pair as they are always hanging out together and will chase off tetras together. Also my male will swim around flaring at the glass. I am simply looking for some more information about breeding behaviors and how they spawn? Do they prefer flat rocks or caves? What should I expect before they lay, are they good parents that short of thing.

Hi,

I have a breeding pair of Panduro. They prefer to spawn in soft water at a Ph of 6-6.5 it seems. They use a half coconut cave to spawn in also. Breeding behaviours include: "dancing" together, the female making piles of sand around the cave entrance and of course, she will turn bright yellow when ready to spawn.

If they havent spawned together before it will probably take them a few attempts to get it right. Mine managed not to eat the eggs on the fourth attempt.

Once the female has laid her eggs and the male has hopefully fertilised them, she will hang around the cave constantly. So thats another sign to look for.

After 3 days the eggs will hatch into wrigglers. These will sit in the cave floor for about 7 days before been able to swim freely. Its best if you start feeding on the 7th day of the wriggler stage as their egg sacs will have depleted.

Once the fry are free swimming you can feed them microworms, decapsulated Brine Shrimp eggs, Baby Brineshrimp and/or a high protein powdered fry food. I fed mine twice daily with a syringe. Make sure to keep ontop of regular water changes to encourage growth and to keep the water clean from the messy feeding.

Thanks for the info. I have a few rocky caves would you recommend getting coconut caves? And I use di/ro so my water is nice and soft with a ph a little below 7.0
