Hi all,

My Panduro fry were born on the 21st June so they are nearly 6 weeks old. I have around 11 remaining in my community tank (I know its not a breeding tank lol) The male has been taken out and the female is still guarding the fry.

Do you think they are ready to be seperated yet? I would like to reunite the parents at some point but the fry seem too small yet to move.

What do you all think? :)

Thanks for the reply :)

There is one that is larger than the rest but they all average out at about 5 mm. Are the best caught with a siphon or a net? Do I catch them during the day infront of the female? She wont go into a mad frenzy will she? :p

A little update, the fry are now 10 weeks old. Im just wondering if they are starting to show any signs of their genders yet?

Yes there definitely panduro. I dont remember seeing my panduro with the same markings as yours. The female fry in my tank certainly showed black in the pectoral fins and the males were always yellow in the fin.

Thanks :)

Thats interesting, Ive noticed some of the fry have a black spot like the female and darker "eye lines". But I cant really tell. Im not sure why the fry have a black lateral line, unless its only a jouvenile thing.

I found them quite slow in growing. But the pectoral fins should show different colours.

Right now they are too young to be positively sexed. It usually takes at least 4-6 months. Before then I find sexing is more based on behavior (something I can't explain, but can recognize) than anything else.

Thanks Mike, I have seen some perform a display similar to their parents. Its when they go parallel and then sweep their tails at each other.
