hi guys
im new here. this is my first post.
so i recently acquired a pair of juvie a.agassizi blue. yes i know its wrong to purchase a juvie pair and hope that they are indeed male and female.
i have a hunch that indeed i have two males.
they have been with me for a week and for some time now one seems to be more dominant in the sense that when the other gets near him or when he sees the other in his territory he flares and chases the other.
but i am relatively new to apistos..so is this same gender aggression or is it something that happens even with different genders?
this is the hing i need to confirm whether or not the other fish would need to get a new home right?
thanks

Such behavior is seen between fish of the same sex and opposite sex. It is simple dominance. Can you show photos of the fish? A. agassizii are easy to sex when mature; less so when young.

I'm guessing here, but based upon the image of the bottom fish, I'd say that it is a female. Could certainly be wrong, but the belly being so yellow and the dark cheek mark with a lack of "gems" makes me think the "dominant" fish is female.

bump.

The fatter one is starting to color up its fins with orange with pearly edges and also 'gems' on the cheeks while the other is still looks almost the same except for some pearly fin edges. should i separate them? the fatter one is starting to look too dominant. and i fear that the slimmer one is not getting enough food.

planning on adding another one probably an adult, and ill make sure its a female. would that be advisable? its just the three of them and an oto in a 20g

thanks in advance

I think that with better photos, we can see it better.
I guess it could be a male.
