Advise re Apisto irinidae

Im due to get 6 of these fish next week.From my reading they seem abit tricky.Ive prepeared a large flat tank(2x3x1ft high)filled it with sand and rainwater and put a bucketful of Ketapang "tea" in there so I can hardly see the back.Will put the usual hidey holes and ketapang leaves in next.III put some cardinal tetras as dithers
Any experiences out there??

pH <6.0 and soft water is needed. Also, my experience is that females can be choosy about mates, so not just any male will be do.

I have spawned them at pH 6.8, water is soft at 90 ppm TDS. Fry are currently one week free swimming on Instant Brine Shrimp.
I use RO water, beech leaves and alder cones. Normal temp is 24deg C but I think a drop in temp to 22 for about 24 hours go them going.
Tank is 35L, 50cmx25x30.
The male is tolerated by the female and I have Ember tetras as dithers.
