hi. well i was trying to bring my ph down, so i got some distilled water. i replaced 25% of tank water with distilled (the rest is conditioned tap water). untill i did this i noticed no problems with either fish, now 10hrs later the male dies. female seems fine. new water tests show:
ph=7.0
gh=8 drops to turn gr (with 5ml tank water)
ammonia= between 0 and 0.25 (closer to 0)
the only thing drastic was a 6 degree temp drop with the new water.
but i would think the female would show some signs if that were the problem.
please help!

Any large changes on water values, done quickly, may have a negative affect on fish. The temp. change is the more likely culprit, but there could be any number of other possibilities too. What affects one fish in the tank, doesn't necessarily affect another!
