I was fortunate enough to aquire a pair from Ekona about a month ago. Mine have already spawned. I would guess somewhere from 40-60 fry. Fun fish and great looking too. Thanks Ekona!
I am not sure if one inch diameter will be large enough in the long run esspecially for spawning. There are people here that know much more than me, though, and i am sure they will let us know.
How big are your fish now? I never thought of using the clear pvc. I bet that looks pretty cool...
great video Ted. i just pick some of these up from Jeff. mine are still quite small and are in a 125 gal right now, so there is no aggression yet. i have never kept any Hemichromis before so i am looking forward to these guys.
i love the pic too.
Joel
Thanks Jim and Ted,
There are some other dwarfs in there and there is this emporer tetra who is always lurking in the thick cluster of java fern....
These fish are actually the ones i got from you, Jim. i ended up pulling them out the other day. I think i ended up getting a pretty good...
i am wondering when you guys pull the fry out of the tank and put them in a grow out tank? When i have left them in the tank before i have lost the fry. the parents do a good job at protecting them, but they can only do so much. it seems that once the fry get a little adventurous that is the...
well i have been adjusting my ph with muriatic acid. i have got the the right mix of ro and tap to give me a ph of 8.2 and kh of 3. i then begin to add the acid (slowly and in small no tiny amounts). so far it has worked and no ill effects on the fish. My ph is now 7 and kh remained about...
i will take measurements of my tap and of a 50/50 mix in a bucket with some gravel and in a bucket without some gravel. maybe this is the issue.
Ted, do you have any wood that is brachy for sale?
thanks Ted,
there is not anything else in there except driftwood.....which i could always use more of. Do have anything branchy?
That is a good idea to pull out some water and test it there, the only reason i was going to test it in the tank is because there are no fish in there right...
thanks Ted, i went a took readings from the tank i am setting up. it is a 90 gal and i am setting it for Geophagus OH Tapajos or..... i mean Westies( i had to say it since i am in that forum)
Anyway, the reading are as follows Ph 7.7, Kh 2, Gh 1.5, TDS 35. i think i have the parameters you...
well, i am glad to see that i am not alone here..... i was getting rather frustrated. thanks for the information and suggestions.
i was thinking about using a 32 gal tub i have, filling it with ro water, reconstituting it with ro right and then using hydrocloric acid to adjust the PH. Does...
i am wondering what people are doing to get neutral water or even acidic water. i have a ro/di unit (just changed all the filters) and it seem that the ph is about 5.5 when it first comes out. if i let it stand for 24 housr the PH is up to 7.9. the gh and kh are still at 0 or very very close...
ok, i do have a pair of Apisto panduro that ia m looking to move. i could use these guys in htat tank. The big question now is what to put in with them any suggestions?
Joel
thanks for the info mud pie mama, the foot print of the tank is 2 foot by 1 foot.
I am not sure how many i was thinking of putting in there. I was waiting to hear personal experience of people who have dealt with this fish. I really was thinking more of a pair, but that doesnt sound like a...
A little background. My boss wanted to set up a fish tank in the office. He had a 20 gal at home so he brought it in. He wanted me to help him set it up and help him with fish selection. that might have been a mistake on his part. i will take this oppertunity to put fish in there that i am...
i would 2nd the rummynose tetra. dont be fooled by the way they appear at your LFS. When you get them home and in the right conditions, they are spectacular.....and a true schooling fish!
Joel
thanks guys, since i removed the fry the other female has been taking over as the dominant female. The two females fight a bit and the male comes over and chase the one he paired with away. Now it looks as if the other female and original male will spawn . I have noticed them go into the...
