My Pelvicachromis taeniatus "Kienke" just love their new caves that I finally installed.

I went to Lowes and got some clear flexible vinyl tubing in the 1 inch internal diameter size, and cut a couple pieces. I have them basically buried in the sand, with just one openning. They started their dancing behaviors already!

I love making fish happy on the cheap! Like $3 cheap!

I am not sure if one inch diameter will be large enough in the long run esspecially for spawning. There are people here that know much more than me, though, and i am sure they will let us know.

How big are your fish now? I never thought of using the clear pvc. I bet that looks pretty cool, like a cave just going down into the sand. Got any pics?

Good luck

Joel

Pelvicachromis like to hide in tight places, and I am sure they will spawn in there if that is their only option. I have done tests will all sorts of caves, and when breeding the vast majority choose a roomy cave with a small opening where the adults can turn around inside and block the entrance with their head. I have not tried a 1" tube of pvc, but I have tried long 1.5 inch ceramic tubes. The fish would use them to hide, but still spawned in the roomier caves. My favorites are the burritos the plecocaves.com sells.
